Comparison

Jamatu or Klara. POS system or business suite.

Klara is a business suite with accounting, payroll and a POS inside. Jamatu is a POS system for hospitality, from the table to the kitchen, with the assistant Jonida.

  • CHF 35 a month per venue
  • Payment terminal free of charge
  • Guests order by QR code
  • Cancel monthly, no prepayment needed

The JamWaiter demo runs right in your browser, no sign-up needed. The login details are pre-filled, so you are in the POS in two clicks.

In brief

Two systems, two starting points

For a comparison to be worth anything, first a fair description of both.

Jamatu

Built for Swiss hospitality

From the canton of Zurich, for restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, take-aways and canteens. POS on a tablet, smartphone or JamTerminal, self-ordering by QR code and at the kiosk, reservations, kitchen display and ticket printing.

Billing is per venue, not per device. We provide the payment terminal free of charge, and the subscription can be cancelled monthly.

Klara

The business suite

A brand of E-Post Service AG, which is majority-owned by Swiss Post. AI-powered accounting, CRM, order management, payroll, time tracking, inventory, online shop and appointment booking, each available as an add-on.

The POS comes with its own hardware on subscription, and payments run through Klara at 1.7 percent per transaction. If you want accounting and POS from a single source, you get both here.

Honestly, up front

Which system suits whom

The decision isn't made on price but on what your venue needs.

Choose Jamatu if

  • your day-to-day business is table service: tables, courses, kitchen and end-of-shift closing
  • your accountant handles your bookkeeping anyway
  • you want your guests to order, pre-order and book tables themselves
  • you have several devices out on the floor and don't want each one to mean another subscription
  • you want to be able to cancel monthly instead of committing for years

Choose Klara if

  • you absolutely want accounting and POS from the same provider
  • you manage payroll, time tracking and projects in the same system
  • your business bills retail or services as well as hospitality
  • your POS should keep taking orders and cash payments during a network outage

  1. CHF 35 a month when prepaying two years (CHF 840), CHF 40 for one year, otherwise CHF 49 a month. One subscription per venue, no minimum term.
  2. According to Klara, the price applies to the Kasse Flex with a 30 percent discount on a three-year subscription; the Kasse Duo costs from CHF 69. All Klara prices are exclusive of VAT.
  3. No purchase and no monthly rental, with at least six months of use.
  4. The rate depends on payment method and volume and is stated in your quote. We deliberately do not give a flat figure, because depending on your mix it would be misleading in either direction.
  5. Kitchen display (Order Dashboard in OrderAdmin), Order Master in JamWaiter and ticket printers with stations and routing rules.
  6. TWINT always needs a connection, and card payments usually do too. Without a network, an offline POS is mostly left with cash. That is why we rely on devices with a SIM card that stay connected even without Wi-Fi.

Costs

Where the pricing model makes the difference

With a single POS, the two are close. They diverge as soon as several devices run on the floor or the venue operates seasonally. Klara first, then Jamatu.

  • CHF 1'308less per year

    Three devices on the floor

Three devices used for ordering and payment. With Klara, one Kasse Flex each on subscription; with us, one subscription for the venue.

    Klara 3 × CHF 48 × 12: CHF 1'728 excl. VAT · Jamatu CHF 420

  • CHF 282less per season

    A six-month season

Food truck or beer garden, closed in winter. With Klara the subscription runs all year; with us you can cancel at the end of any month.

    Klara 1 × CHF 48 × 12: CHF 576 excl. VAT · Jamatu 6 × CHF 49: CHF 294

  • CHF 3'400Klara on CHF 200'000 card sales

    The transactions

The biggest item in the comparison is usually payments. Klara charges 1.7 percent on every payment method. We set out our rate for your mix in the quote, so you can see both figures side by side.

    Klara 1.7 % × CHF 200'000 = CHF 3'400 a year

Calculated with the cheapest Klara subscription (Kasse Flex on a three-year subscription, Klara prices excl. VAT) and for Jamatu with two years prepaid (CHF 35 a month). In the seasonal example we use CHF 49 a month for Jamatu, as no prepayment applies. Payment terminals, accessories and accounting are not included. If you need Klara's accounting, the numbers shift, because with us you buy that from your accountant.

The difference

Four things that tip the balance

  • 01

    Per venue, not per POS

A second device on the floor shouldn't mean a second subscription. With us, the number of devices in use doesn't change the price.

  • 02

    Guests order and book themselves

QR ordering at the table, pre-ordering, pick-up and delivery with JamOrder at no monthly fee, plus table reservations.

  • 03

    Cancel monthly

No annual subscription and no minimum term. If you take a break, your menu and settings are waiting when you return.

  • 04

    A rate by payment method

We charge by payment method and volume instead of one rate for everything. Comparing both quotes shows which option is cheaper for your mix.

A fair comparison

Who Klara suits

No POS system suits every venue. In these cases Klara is a good choice.

  • Accounting. That is Klara's core, with AI support and reconciliation from the POS. We don't offer accounting; with us it goes through your accountant.
  • Payroll, time tracking and projects. Payroll from CHF 3.90 per payslip with the Business package, time tracking and projects from CHF 4 per person per month, all in the same system.
  • Retail and services. CRM, order management and appointment booking are modules at Klara, plus a general online shop. We do hospitality, and online ordering of food and drinks runs through JamOrder.

For everyone else: one subscription per venue, everything important included, round-the-clock support from Switzerland. Bring your quote and we will work through your numbers.

Switching

What switching really involves

  1. Check your contract

If your POS subscription runs for several years, we first check when you can get out. If that means we have to wait, we will tell you.

  2. Transfer your menu

We enter items, prices, variants and extras together in one session. Your existing menu as a list is enough to start from.

  3. Sort out accounting

If your accounting was linked to your POS until now, we discuss with you and your accountant how sales figures will reach them in future.

Is Jamatu cheaper than Klara?

With a single POS, the two are close. With several devices on the floor and in seasonal operation, the per-venue model pays off, see the cost examples. The biggest item is usually transactions. That is why we compare both quotes against your sales. If you need Klara's accounting, the numbers shift.

Why don't you state a percentage?

Because a flat figure would be misleading in either direction. The rate depends on how your guests pay and how much goes through the POS. What we firmly commit to: no fixed fee per receipt, no fee for the terminal, and a rate that is in your quote before you sign.

What about accounting?

We don't offer it. If you absolutely want POS and accounting from the same provider, Klara is the right choice. With us, sales figures go to your accountant.

How long am I tied in with you?

Not at all. The subscription runs online, can be cancelled at the end of any month and has no minimum term. If you pause, your menu, items and settings are kept.

Can my guests order and book by themselves?

Yes. With JamOrder, guests order and pay by QR code at the table, pre-order or have their order delivered, with no monthly fee. Table reservations also run through Jamatu.

Does Jamatu work without internet?

No. Jamatu needs a connection, which is why smartphones and JamTerminals have a SIM card, and printers can too on request. For payments, offline would gain little anyway: TWINT always needs a connection, and card payments usually do too.
