For a comparison to be worth anything, first a fair description of both.

Jamatu

Built for Swiss hospitality

From the canton of Zurich, for restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, take-aways and canteens. POS on a tablet, a smartphone or the JamTerminal, self-ordering by QR code and at the kiosk, kitchen display and receipt printing, plus the assistant Jonida.

Billing is per venue. Whether one POS is running or five devices are out on the floor, the price stays the same. We provide the payment terminal free of charge, there is no fixed fee per receipt, and the subscription can be cancelled monthly.

Hiopos

Cloud POS from an international reseller network

A platform for hospitality, retail and beauty, sold in 48 countries through more than 40 partners by its own account. In Switzerland, HIOPOS Schweiz in Sursee sells through bk POS in German- and French-speaking Switzerland and INFOREG in Ticino. POS, kitchen display, kiosk, online and QR ordering, stock, table reservations and its own POS hardware.

You buy through the reseller: POS hardware, one licence per till and the card terminal. Only a starter package is public; everything else comes in the quote.

Choose Jamatu if

  • you don't want to buy a POS or rent a terminal before the first guest pays
  • you have several devices on the floor and don't want each one to mean another licence
  • you want to use JamWaiter on iPad, Android or Sunmi, including devices you already own
  • you work seasonally and want to be able to cancel monthly
  • you want setup and onboarding on site, directly from the provider rather than through a middleman

Choose Hiopos if

  • you would rather buy the POS and terminal once than pay a subscription
  • you run a shop or a hair salon alongside your restaurant in the same system

  1. CHF 35 a month with two years paid in advance (CHF 840), CHF 40 with one year, otherwise CHF 49 a month. One subscription per venue, no minimum term.
  2. No purchase and no monthly rent, with at least six months of use.
  3. Hiopos Schweiz and bk POS do not publish this. Licence prices from the second year, modules, transaction rates and contract length are in the quote. Ask for the figures to complete the comparison.
  4. In the GO Bundle, the annual licence covers the one till in the package. Each additional till needs its own licence.
  5. The rate depends on the payment method and volume and is stated in your quote. We deliberately don't give a flat figure, because depending on your mix it would be misleading in either direction.
  6. Kitchen display (Order Dashboard in OrderAdmin) for the kitchen; for bars and small kitchens, the Order Master directly in JamWaiter.
  7. JamTerminals and smartphones have a SIM card and stay connected over the mobile network. Paying by card or TWINT usually needs a connection anyway, with any system.

Only the Hiopos starter package is public, so we calculate the first year with one POS and card payments. Hiopos first, then Jamatu.

A fair comparison

Who Hiopos suits

No POS system suits every venue. In these cases, Hiopos is a good choice.

  • Restaurant, shop and salon under one roof. Hiopos has dedicated versions for retail and beauty, with scales and self-checkout. We are built for hospitality only.
  • Cash recyclers and scales. Hiopos lists integration with Glory cash recyclers and with scales. If you need that at the POS, you should take a look there.

For everyone else: one subscription per venue, everything important included, round-the-clock support from Switzerland. Bring your quote along and we will work through your numbers.

What switching really involves

  1. Check licence and devices

    First we check how long your Hiopos licence is paid for and what happens to the POS. If switching only pays off later, we will tell you.

  2. Set up your menu together

    We enter items, prices, variants and extras together in one session. An existing menu as a list is all we need to start.

  3. Train your team

    We set up the POS at your venue and train your team. You can try the demo in your browser beforehand.

What venues ask us

How much does Hiopos cost in Switzerland?

The reseller bk POS publishes the HIOPOS GO Bundle from CHF 859, with POS and one year of licence, plus card terminals from CHF 369. Licence prices from the second year, modules and transaction rates are only available with a quote. As of 20 October 2026.

Is Jamatu always cheaper than Hiopos?

In the first year, mostly, because with us you buy neither a POS nor a terminal. What it looks like after that depends on the licence price in your Hiopos quote and on transactions. That is why we work through your case with both quotes.

Can I keep using my Hiopos hardware?

JamWaiter runs on iPad, Android devices and Sunmi. We will check with you whether your devices are suitable. We provide the JamTerminal for POS and card payments free of charge, with at least six months of use.

What happens if the Wi-Fi goes down?

The JamTerminal and smartphones have a SIM card and keep running over 4G, for ordering and payment. A POS that keeps recording offline does little for payments: card and TWINT usually need a connection anyway.

Who is Hiopos a better fit for?

For businesses that run a shop or salon in the same system alongside their restaurant, and for integrating cash recyclers and scales. If that is central for you, Hiopos is a good fit. For everything else, we are happy to work through your case.
